Global Crime Global crime is a serious threat to our global community. Every year global crime gets worst. Our advancements in technology not only helps and betters us, it also helps and betters global crime. I will discuss two of the major global crimes drug trade and piracy. The global drug trade is probably the most sought after global crime by authorities. The global drug trade industry is a multi billion-dollar industry. Drugs are produced everywhere in the world but the bulk of drugs come from a few countries. The Golden Crescent and Golden Triangle produce most of the opium poppies that produce heroin.
Cocaine comes mainly from South America. Marijuana is produced in most countries since it’s easy to grow. The heroin producing countries, which are known as the Golden Triangle (Burma, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos), and the Golden Crescent (Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran) are mostly third-world countries. The drug trade helps their economies and brings more money into their country. The drug dealers in these countries are looked to as good people because they are the ones that are taking care of the people that the corrupt governments are not.
The drug dealers are rebuilding schools and parks while the governments are worried about themselves. The amount of money involved in the drug trade in just North Korea is estimated at about $500 million a year. The people that the drug trade is helping are the poor farmers in these countries that can’t make money because of the protectionist policies that major countries have in place to protect their own farmers. So these poor farmers in poor states turn to producing drugs to provide for themselves.
But there are also many people that are harmed by the drug trade and its effects on other people, economies, and countries. The only people that global crime helps are the people running the show. The rest of us are reaping the harms not the benefits a select few receive. Global crime does bring in billions of dollars to countries each year but at the expense of harming and damaging that country. A lot of people don’t realize that producing these drugs not only harms the individuals that are using them, but they are also harming the environment.
Most of the drugs that have to be processed like heroin and cocaine use harmful chemicals to produce them. These chemicals are then released into the atmosphere when cooked or when they need to de disposed of. However, drug trafficking is not the only crime that affects our world. Piracy doesn’t sound like a major threat anymore, but it still is a major crime affecting our world today. Nowadays pirates don’t just roam the ocean looking for ships to take over they have set agendas of what ships they will take.
They pick their ships based on what they can receive as ransom for it or what they can salvage off it. Most pirates are classified as terrorists because their main goal is to have some sort of leverage over the country that is home to the ship or to the country where the products are going. Another form of piracy is the downloading of music and applications off the Internet without paying for a legal license. The good thing that comes out of Internet piracy is that it enables students that do not have the necessary funds to get expensive programs that universities require them to have for classes.
And it allows beginner professionals that don’t have the money to get these expensive programs they need to start up their company like a photographer can easily download Adobe Suite, which is a couple of thousand dollars, for free on the internet and start working and then in time he can purchase a legit copy of it when he has the funds. Even though this is helping them out it is still illegal. The people that develop these products are hard working individuals and want to be paid for their hard work and by downloading them off the Internet they don’t receive that money that they deserve.
This is the same thing with downloading music. People think all they are doing is downloading songs off the Internet, and the musicians are extremely rich already and don’t need the money. They are extremely rich, but they also work extremely hard.
